Title: Shockwaves (1/?)
Disclaimer: The characters herein and any familiar names belong to NBC’s Heroes, they are not mine and I’m not saying they are. The situations and plot are mine.
Rating: PG-13
Note- At this point the story is PG-13; I fully intend to make this R by the end of it though. You have been warned.
Summary: After the events of Season 1 the Heroes must go on with their lives. But can they?
Authors Note: This will become AU very quickly due to the fact that we are about to get a new episode on the 23rd! I will still continue with the rules, and characters(both mine and NBC's) I have set up. Its just another idea for Season 2 in my mind.
And Sylar is not in the chapter, but I do have to start setting up new characters(and there will be many) and stories. But don't worry, you will get your Sylar fix with this story I promise!
Special Thanks to
totallybalanced for being a great Beta.
The ticking on the wall had started to bother Jenny after the first hour in the apartment. She had been there four hours.
Looking down at her cell phone she saw that there were three text messages waiting for her. Glancing at the sleeping form across the room she opened them quietly. The first one was reminding her that her rent was due by the end of the day. The second came from her boss at the Agency reminding her to return the paperwork from the last patient by the end of the week.
The third was what she had been waiting for.
Are you off yet? I’ll be at Casey’s by 1:30 with or without you. – P
"Ms Roussel?" Came a tired voice from across the room, "Can I have some Evian?"
Glancing back down at her phone for the time, Jenny walked across the room and gave the young woman in the bed her water. Leaning over Jenny checked the machines and saw that everything was running normal. Reaching down and taking the girl’s arm, Jenny checked her blood pressure.
Taking the now empty bottle back Jenny said, "Well Addie, you’re looking good."
"Really?!" chirped Addie glancing down at her chest, "you don’t think that they’re too big?"
They look like two watermelons attached to a popsicle stick, but I wasn’t referring to them Jenny thought.
"Marvelous, all the girls at school will be so jealous!" She answered with the smile she had learned in Nursing School.
"Awesome."
"Actually Addie, you are doing so well I was going to take my lunch break out of the building today." Jenny said collecting her purse from the side table "And Adam is coming by. Don’t worry" she said seeing Addie’s coming question, "I checked with you mother. She said that it’s fine."
"Ok! I’ll see you later then." Addie said rearranging herself among the blankets and such. Jenny handed her the make-up kit from the closet as she was leaving, knowing that it would be the next thing requested.
It was a sharp March day and it was still gusty and cold. She had passed Addie’s boyfriend in the hallway before leaving giving him the strictest instruction to not let Addie out of bed or do anything strenuous and to call her if she started feeling bad.
Pulling her coat closer Jenny ran down the street, scarf flapping in the wind behind her. She glanced down at her watch, an antique left to her by her father, and saw that she was going to be late for lunch. Pulling her loose brown hair into a ponytail that had fallen out in the wind she began to dodge taxis and cars in her attempt to get to Casey’s faster.
Ten minutes later, and twenty minutes late, she slid in the door of the small bistro. Still catching her breath, she heard a familiar voice from across them room.
"About time! I was just about to leave."
"No you weren’t!" Jenny said crossing the room, "Where would you go? You have a job now that I don’t know about?"
"That hurt," he said, pointing at his chest, "right here"
"Peter Petrelli, you are such a drama queen" Jenny said with a laugh, taking the chair that he had saved for her.
Peter laughed at her and glanced around the small restaurant. This had become a favorite place of his to eat since another nurse had introduced him to it strait out of school. But today it would only be Jenny and him. He wistfully remembered a time where they would crowd six people at these small tables and trade horror stories about surgeries gone wrong, spoiled patients and dumb mistakes. But all that was gone now, ever since he had quit his job for "Personal Reasons" the past August.
Though he still saw many familiar faces, he didn’t get to see anyone as often as he would like anymore. But since the events of last November he had slowly began to pick up the friendships he had suddenly dropped. It was his true friends that reacted like nothing had happed, that he had taken a long vacation, and just picked back up from where they had left off. Jenny was one of these. Peter glanced back at the girl sitting across from him at the table.
"And I do have a job;" He continued, "I just took a few months off. You know with my brother winning the election and everything." Peter said with a smile as he bit into his sandwich that had just arrived, "I’m back with the Agency. Starting this morning actually."
"That’s awesome. You going to start watching people die again?" Jenny said looking at the menu.
"Sometimes I think you and my brother are on the same wavelength," Peter shot back as Jenny took a few fries off his plate. "Jenny, we aren’t dating, why are you eating my food?"
"And . . ." Jenny said nonchalantly as she ate the fries, "It would be all levels of wrong if we actually did, no offense I just don’t see you that way, but you’ve been eating out of my fridge for two months while you were finding yourself. And even though your family seems to pay for that gargantuan apartment, food is not on their list."
"Yeah well I’m starting up with someone new tomorrow" Peter said pulling his plate away from Jenny’s searching fingers, "I’m actually helping people, compared to whatever it is that you do."
"Oh don’t start that, you know exactly what I do. I baby-sit rich brats with boob jobs and tummy-tucks" Jenny said, "And I make three times what you do."
"That was low." He said pretending to be hurt, "You specialized in ICU-recovery at LSU. How did you end up in plastic surgery?"
"Honestly," Jenny said from behind the menu, "They pay me more."
"That was honest, but I’ve always known that was the answer." Peter said quickly and before Jenny could counter he said, "and I’m not going to need to eat your food anymore. But I do have something for you."
"A boyfriend?" Said Jenny glancing over the top of the menu.
"Well, how about one for a night."
"You know I’m not into that."
"Oh, listen Jenny!" Peter said exasperated pushing her menu to the table, "I got two tickets from Nathan for the March of Dimes benefit at the Smithsonian in three weeks . . ."
"You got tickets!" Jenny said dropping the menu and leaning forward excitedly, "And I’m going with you, right?"
"No, that’s why I told you about them. Of course you are." Peter said laughing, but Jenny could tell that he was hiding something.
"What’s the catch?"
"Ummm, you are kinda my girlfriend for the night." Peter said quickly, "But its something Nathan said I had to do, the last thing his platform needs is for his ex-suicidal brother to be thought of as gay. And that’s exactly what happed when I had to make an appearance last week, and I didn’t have a date."
"I saw that on Page 6. I was more impressed that you made Page 6 actually" Jenny mussed, "I mean . . . than the fact that they thought you were gay."
Peter ignored her, continuing, "Plus I thought that if I had to sit though and entire night of chitchat with the family, I’d let you enjoy it as well."
"You’re crazy." Jenny said motioning to the waiter, "If this didn’t mean that I got to wear a great dress and pretend to be filthy rich for a night I wouldn’t go"
Peter grinned as Jenny told the server what she wanted.
OK I love comments, they help me continue writing. So if you want to see more, I need to know!
